Description

SILOXAN W 290 is a solvent-based natural and artificial stone impregnating agent based on oligomeric siloxanes for hydrophobing mineral building materials. The product can be used on natural and artificial stone, concrete, aerated concrete, sand-lime brick, brickwork, unglazed pottery, fiber cement, mineral plasters, and mineral paint coatings. The decisive technical point is its function as an impregnation, not as a sealant: The capillaries are not sealed but narrowed. This prevents water molecules from penetrating the substrate, while smaller water vapor molecules continue to escape from the stone. The building component remains diffusion-open, preventing damage from trapped moisture. SILOXAN W 290 hydrolyzes under atmospheric humidity and condenses into a non-tacky polysiloxane with very high penetration depth, extremely high alkali resistance, and high aging resistance. For businesses, this means slower weathering, prevented efflorescence, less mold, algae, and moss formation, and longer cleaning intervals on facades. Application is done by spraying, brushing, or dipping in at least two wet-on-wet coats, as effective hydrophobization is only achieved with substrate-saturating application.

Product application

  • Apply SILOXAN W 290 by spraying, brushing, or dipping. Application must be carried out in at least two coats, working very generously and evenly wet-on-wet. Effective hydrophobization is only achieved with substrate-saturating application. Consumption depends on the absorbency of the substrate and is empirically between 100 and 250 milliliters per square meter, in extreme cases more. Sufficiently sized test areas provide information on quantity and effect, especially for substrates with varying absorbency such as shell limestone. Application to damp but absorbent substrates is possible. The product is harmful if swallowed and in contact with skin, may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways, and causes skin irritation. Ensure good ventilation, keep away from ignition sources, and wear personal protective equipment.
  • Ready to use, do not dilute. Apply in at least two wet-on-wet coats until substrate saturation.

Do not use as a sealant and do not apply to non-absorbent or already densely coated substrates, as complete insulation due to incorrect impregnation can damage the substrate. Create a test area, especially with shell limestone that has varying absorbency.
